ONEBOOKAZ Author to Speak at MCC |

Author Carolyn O’Bagy Davis will read excerpts from her book, Hopi Summer, which was selected for ONEBOOKAZ 2011, at Mesa Community College’s Southern and Dobson Campus on March 7 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Southwest Reading Room of the Paul. A. Elsner Library. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. “Hopi Summer” will be available for an author signing.
Author: Carolyn O’Bagy Davis, a fourth-generation descendant of Utah pioneers, has written nine books on the history of archaeology, quilting, and western history. She earned her B.A. degree in Anthropology from the University of Arizona. Davis lectures extensively to history, archaeology and quilting groups around the country and has curated many traveling museum exhibits. Book description: In 1927, Maud Melville, a wealthy New Englander, and Ethel Muchvo, a Hopi potter, struck up a remarkable friendship. Based on diaries, letters and photographs of Ethel and Maud, O'Bagy Davis delves into the touching relationship that blossomed between two different women throughout many years of triumphs and sorrows. The goals of ONEBOOK AZ are: To celebrate literature and encourage reading, to foster a sense of community by bringing people together through programs such as book discussions and other special events and to nurture partnerships between the authors, the public, libraries, schools and cultural institutions.
